Tinkers Creek

Location: Summit County, Ohio. View location map
Construction: Spring 1999

Overview of the Problem

This project was implemented to mitigate relocation of approximately 1000 feet of Tinkers Creek, moved to facilitate a develop a shopping center on the site. Tinkers Creek tends to have good physical structure and habitat but is limited by point and non-point pollution sources. The stream was not entrenched and flowing through occasional wetlands.

Restoration Solution

The project constructed a meandering channel through an area adjacent to the development site. The new stream was aligned through an area of higher elevation than the original location. While the stream pattern and profile are comparable to the original channel, the access to active floodplain area was reduced to in order to maintain existing trees in the new alignment. The project was stabilized with root wads and log vanes.
