Restoration | Natural Channel Design | Tools & Models

Lazarro Run

Location: Cuyahoga County, Ohio. View location map
Construction: Summer 1995

Overview of the Problem

This small, steep headwater stream became unstable as a result of residential development in the watershed. Storm water routing and added impervious surface increased the frequency and volume of the channel forming flows, resulting in an unstable and unsightly channel. The channel quickly became entrenched and downcut 6 feet, causing massive slope failures, debris dams and flooding..

Restoration Solution

The restoration approach involved a Priority 1 restoration, converting stream type from G to B2a and raising the streambed back to pre-development elevations in the valley. The restored stream geometry was stable, functional, and efficient at moving sediment.
