Furnace RunLocation: Summit County, Ohio. View location map Overview of the Problem Furnace Run was diverted about 30 years ago such that all flow passed through a 2 acre lake before continuing downstream, thereby abandoning a portion of the old stream channel. The sediment accumulation rates were undesirably high in this system and became the impetus for this restoration project. Restoration Solution The restoration entailed establishing another channel such that most flow from this stream system does not enter the lake. Furnace Run is still connected to the lake such that about 20% of base flow and about 10 cfs will enter during bankfull storm events (about 4.5% of stream flow). Constructed and/or used : step/pools, meanders, vortex rock weirs, root wads, live branches, and rock toe protection.
