Flat Rock Creek

Location: Defiance County, Ohio. View location map
Construction: Summer 1999

Overview of the Problem

The project was initiated in order to relocate and reduce the length of 2919 ft of stream (reduced to 1825 ft) so that a Meijers store could be constructed on the property. The stream was dominated by glide/pool structure and had poor aquatic habitat features. There were no other known problems with the stream prior to this project.

Restoration Solution

Relocation of the stream. Installation of: Steps/pools, Vortex rock weirs, Riffle/pool structure, Meanders (i.e., created sinuosity). Floodplain area planted and/or seeded with numerous species of trees, grasses and forbs for soil stability and wildlife habitat enhancement.
