Dug Run

Location: Allen County, Ohio. View topographic map
Construction: 1996

Overview of the Problem

Dug Run through the project reach was an entrenched channel (Rosgen F) which was experiencing lateral erosion upstream of the site. Some areas along the creek were heavily armored with rip rap and the creek showed very poor aquatic habitat (low QHEI scores).

Restoration Solution

The project relocated the channel in order to facilitate land development. It aimed at improving the in-stream aquatic habitat by constructing a riffle pool configuration. Additionally channel stability was improved by creating a less entrenched 2 stage channel, although the meander development and floodplain area are still restricted due to the development.
