Darby Creek

Location: Pickaway County, Ohio. View topographic map
Construction: Summer 2000

Overview of the Problem

The integrity of the levee system along the Richards' property was being compromised due to severe erosion occurring during flood events. This problem has been attributed to the mechanics of the meander pattern development and its downstream migration as scour and deposition patterns are in dynamic state.

Restoration Solution

Increased meander belt width by relocating existing levee system to a position approximately 250 feet upland from its previous location. Create vanes that originate at the levee and extend upstream in order to divert flood waters away from the structure.
